A Recent Project Near Downtown Matawan

A 1920s colonial just off Main Street. Original plaster on both floors. The walls were holding up fine structurally, but hairline cracks fanned out from every door casing and window frame on the first floor. The dining room had three layers of wallpaper stacked on top of each other, with the bottom layer glued straight to bare plaster. Trim was all oil-base. Yellowed badly near the baseboard radiators.

We scored and steamed the wallpaper in the dining room, then skim-coated the plaster underneath to get it flat. Cracks got routed, filled with setting compound, cured overnight, sanded, and then primed. Trim got sanded to a clean surface, wiped, and hit with bonding primer before two coats of waterborne alkyd in semi-gloss. Walls got two coats of Cashmere in eggshell. Six days start to finish.
